Cabbage is a vegetable that has an important symbolic meaning. It arrived in modern Latvia between the 11th and 13th centuries and became one of the main vegetables used in cooking.
Green cabbage leaves are associated with the green color of banknotes. Also, the word “cabbage” is sometimes used as a metaphor for large amounts of money or wealth.
In the olden days, it was also read that eating cabbage increased fertility, which is just one step away from the myth of babies being found or born in cabbage.
