Coin set 5 hryvnia Ukraine 2022 – State Symbols of Ukraine

The official set of commemorative coins of the National Bank of Ukraine imprinted the national symbols of Ukraine in three coins: coat of arms and roots, flag and soul, anthem and motto.

These symbols embody the national idea and reflect the historical continuity of the state. Ukrainian state symbols tell millions of Ukrainians about the glory of their ancestors. The trident is a symbol of the Kyiv state of Volodymyr the Great and symbolizes the continuity of the historical development of the Ukrainian people. The song “Ukraine Has Not Yet Died” has become a powerful symbol of Ukrainians’ struggle for independence over a century and a half, and is now the national anthem. The combination of blue and yellow, which has long been used by Ukrainians to denote their identity and which means clear skies and a wheat field, was officially approved by the Ukrainian People’s Republic as the Ukrainian flag for the first time.

Obverse of the coin “Coat of Arms of Ukraine”: at the top is the small coat of arms of Ukraine – a golden trident on a blue shield; against the background of the sun’s rays – a stylized trident like those used by Vladimir the Great; trident lines show how tridents are formed.

Reverse of the coin “Coat of arms of Ukraine”: surrounded by sun rays, there is a composition of tridents symbolizing the historical heritage of Ukraine – from the two-pointed symbol of Svyatoslav the Brave to tridents on gold and silver coins of the Kiev liberation struggle of 1917–1921, and up to the modern symbol of Ukraine – its coat of arms.

Obverse of the coin “Flag of Ukraine”: at the top – the small coat of arms of Ukraine; a stylized blue-and-yellow flag flutters against the background of the sun’s rays; below is a line from a poem about the Flag: СИНІЙ, ЯК МОРЕ, ЯК ДЕНЬ, ЗОЛОТИЙ – /З НЕБА І СОНЦЯ НАШ ПРАПОР ЯСНИЙ./ОЛЕКСАНДР ОЛЕСЬ (Blue, like the sea, like day, golden – / our flag is clear as the sky and the sun. / Oleksandr Oles).

Reverse of the coin “Flag of Ukraine”: surrounded by sunbeams, an ornamented stylized bird is depicted holding a viburnum branch and symbolizing the soul of Ukrainians striving for freedom and independence.

Obverse of the coin “Anthem of Ukraine”: against the background of a viburnum branch with red berries, the small coat of arms of Ukraine and musical notes are depicted against the background of sunlight.

Reverse of the coin “Hymn of Ukraine”: surrounded by sun rays, the Ukrainian folk hero Cossack Mamai is depicted under an oak trunk – a free spirit, defender, warrior, traveler and skilled rider – symbolizing the Ukrainian mentality and the eternal defender of Ukraine; the Cossack has modern paraphernalia – instead of a saber on an oak tree, a modern machine gun; Above the image of the Cossack, there is an inscription in a semicircle (lines from the hymn): ДУШУ Й ТІЛО МИ ПОЛОЖИМ ЗА НАШУ СВОБОДУ/І ПОКАЖЕМ, ЩО МИ, БРАТТЯ, КОЗАЦЬКОГО РОДУ (We lay down our soul and body for our freedom / and show that we are brothers of the Cossack people).
