For centuries, the Strait of Hormuz has been the most
an important sea route between Europe and India, and
Oman’s coastal capital, Muscat, was the most
important port. Since 1746 the country has been ruled by
the Said dynasty, which also introduced
distinctive national emblem. It consists of two
crossed swords and the so-called khanjar – curved
dagger, which is still worn on holidays and
solemn occasions. National emblem
depicted on both sides of the coins of this set of rials.
The obverses also show the name of the former sultan.
Qaboos bin Said. The set was released for the 45th anniversary
anniversary of his accession to the throne in 1970.
The reverses have an appropriate commemorative text.
