Before modern ships
main means of transportation
there were fautasi boats between the islands of Samoa.
Their length is about 30 meters.
Major boat races are still held today
and are of great cultural importance.
The name fautasi literally means “built as one”
and refers to the necessary joint work of crews of up to 50 people.
The Fautasi race is depicted on the reverse.

led by Tui Atua Tupua Tamasese Efi
as head of state.

the national flower known as “tehuila”
