Colored Silver Coin $2 Niue 2023 – Fast & Furious: Quarter Mile at a Time

One of the highest-grossing movie franchises in history, the Fast & Furious movies have been delivering thrills since 2001. To celebrate the beloved series, a coin was released featuring the iconic 1970 Dodge Charger by the House of Toretto. The issue of the coin is licensed by Universal Studios.

The Fast and the Furious is a media franchise based on a series of action films primarily focused on street racing, heists, spies, and family. The franchise also includes short films, television series, toys, video games, live performances, and theme park rides.

The first film was based on Ken Lee’s 1998 article “Rider X” in Vibe magazine.
Thus began the original tetralogy of illegal street racing films, culminating in The Fast and the Furious (2009). The series moved into heist and espionage in Fast Five (2011), followed by five sequels in the genre, the most recent, Fast X, was released on May 19, 2023.
Universal expanded the series to include a spin-off film Hobbs & Shaw (2019), and its subsidiary DreamWorks Animation followed this with a six-season animated streaming television series Fast and Furious Spy Racers (2019–2021). Soundtrack albums have been released for all films, as well as compilations containing existing music heard in the films. Two short films related to the series have also been released.
The series was a commercial success. It is Universal’s largest franchise and the seventh highest-grossing film series with a combined gross of over $7 billion.
The series, especially the first few films, helped popularize the import and tuning of cars. According to the LA Times, some LAPD officers blame the Fast & Furious films for promoting street racing in the city.
