€90.00 includes 22% VAT
The concept of “Riga fashion” is widely known and describes an active period in the history of Latvian fashion in the 1960s–1980s, when the company “Riga Fashion House” (1948–1997) and the beloved magazine “Rīgas Modes” (“Riga Fashion”; 1949–1993) flourished and gained popularity. During the same period, the fashion center Riga Fashion was created, located in a specially designed building.
A confident woman with her own style and attitude has always been and remains the main character of Riga fashion. The history of Riga fashion is not only about clothes, shoes and accessories. In the context of the 1960s–1980s, fashion is a complex concept that covers the textile industry from home sewing to the mass production of clothing and fabrics on the territory of Latvia. This also includes graphic design for textile printing, the creation of texts, fonts and other means of communication, including fashion shows, their set design and music.
Riga fashion is a keyword not only for style, but also for thousands of women working in the fashion industry. Fashion was also a form of protest, i.e. an opportunity to express one’s individuality, an opportunity to be different, to distance oneself from Soviet-era mass-produced goods and to disassociate oneself from the ideology of that period.
