The coin is dedicated to the German statesman and first Chancellor of the Federal Republic of Germany – Konrad Adenauer (1876-1967) in honor of the 150th anniversary of his birth.

Adenauer was a supporter of the social market economy, political freedom, and respect for human rights, and held a firm anti-communist stance. He advocated for the development of Germany’s ties with France, Great Britain, and the United States, and was a supporter of European integration and active participation of Germany in NATO. After the Nazis came to power in 1933, he resigned from his posts due to his uncompromising rejection of Hitler and National Socialism. After the war, he was reinstated as mayor of Cologne, then served as president of the Parliamentary Council, and then became the first chancellor of the Federal Republic of Germany.
