Gold coin 25 euro Estonia 2022 – Livonia

The coin is dedicated to the 600th anniversary of the first Livonian Land Day collection. The coin primarily symbolizes the desire for regional cooperation for the common good. In 1422, representatives of the most important social groups of Livonia gathered in Võnda (Cēsis) for mutual discussions, which it was decided to regularly hold from now on as a village day. Country days were held to strengthen the unity and therefore the security of the country, conclude agreements and discuss issues related to trade and finance. For almost a century and a half, Earth Days have played an important role in the political life of all of Estonia and Latvia today.

The coin depicts a cross intertwined with a plant ornament, the idea of which goes back to the dolomite relief above the door of the southern vestibule of the Karja church (built in 1334-1340) in the north of Saaremaa. This image symbolizes the uniform, strong and uninterrupted growth and spread of Christian thought in the Middle Ages.
