At the bottom left “2025”, the year of issue of the coin and “RI”, the abbreviation of the Italian Republic; at the right “R”, representing the Mint of Rome; “E. FERRETTI”, the signature of the designer; around the twelve stars of the European Union.
Amerigo Vespucci was an Italian traveler and navigator (09.03.1454 – 22.02.1512). Sailing to the shores of Brazil and the West Indies in 1501-1502, he proved that these territories were not the eastern edge of Asia (as originally assumed from Columbus’s voyages), but a separate continent described as the New World. In 1507, the new continent was named America after the Latin version of Vespucci’s name.
