€19.00 includes 22% VAT
The unique issue of the Royal Netherlands Mint with two medallions is dedicated to epilepsy. The release of medallions with special ultra-violet inserts is intended to highlight the significance of the problem not only in the Netherlands, but throughout the world.
The EpilepsieNL coin card consists of not one, but two medals. Some people with epilepsy cannot be alone either. They need a healthy person by their side to help them when a seizure occurs. The obverse of both medals depicts the head of a girl. On the left medal is an image of the brain of a person without epilepsy. The right medal shows the same brain, but with UV-colored dots. This is the brain of a person with epilepsy. The dots show brain malfunctions that occur in people with epilepsy. On the reverse of the left medal is the EpilepsieNL logo, and on the side is the text: “130 jarig jubileum”, which means: 130th anniversary. On the right medal is the text “Samen in de aanval”, which translates as “Stand Together”. This is the motto of the organization. Above and below this text are the brain waves of a person with epilepsy.
Epilepsy is a chronic non-communicable disease of the brain that affects about 50 million people worldwide. The disease is characterized by recurrent seizures that appear as short-term involuntary convulsions in any part of the body or throughout the body and are sometimes accompanied by loss of consciousness and loss of control over bowel or bladder functions.
