€60.00
Jože Plečnik (January 23, 1872, Ljubljana – January 7, 1957, Ljubljana) was a Slovenian architect and urban planner who took a significant part in shaping the appearance of the current Ljubljana, as well as Prague, one of the architects of the renovated Prague Castle. Plečnik was one of the founders of the Slovenian architectural school of the 20th century. It evolved from national romanticism to functionalism. In the 20th century, for a long time after his death, the activity of the architect did not attract the interest of researchers.
The coin depicts the large window of the reading room of the National and University Library in Ljubljana with a column in front of it. The composition of the signs AR H. PLE Č NIK is built into the window space and is a metaphor for the architect’s signature. The name, surname and year of birth of the architect, the issuing country and the year of issue of the coin are also indicated.
