The coin is dedicated to the 150th anniversary of the birth of Josip Plemelj.
Josip Plemelj (1873 – 1967) – famous mathematician, academician of the Slovenian Academy of Sciences, professor at the University of Chernivtsi. Plemelj’s main scientific interests were the theory of linear differential equations, integral equations, potential theory, theory of analytic functions and functional analysis. In fact, the University of Ljubljana was founded in 1595, but the creation of the Slovenian University was an important step towards the independence of Slovenia. The University of Ljubljana reopened as the Slovenian University in 1919, with Plemelj becoming its first rector. In the same year, He was appointed to the position of Professor of Mathematics in the Faculty of Humanities and Mathematical Sciences. In 1963, the University of Ljubljana awarded him an honorary doctorate on the occasion of his 90th birthday.
