€42.00 includes 22% VAT
The emperor penguin is the largest and heaviest living member of the penguin family. His average height is about 122 cm, and his weight ranges between 22 and 45 kg. The lifespan can reach 25 years. Like all penguins, emperor penguins cannot fly. The head and back of the body are black, the ventral part is white, becoming yellow towards the top.
Of all the penguin species, the emperor penguin goes furthest south. About 300,000 emperor penguins live on ice floes around Antarctica, but migrate to the mainland to mate and incubate their eggs. To keep warm, emperor penguins gather in dense groups, inside which the temperature can reach +35 degrees at an ambient temperature of -20 °C. At the same time, the penguins constantly move from the edge of the group to the center and back, so that everyone is on an equal footing.
The coin depicts adult penguins and their babies standing on the edge of the Antarctic ice. Emperor penguins can be seen approaching in the background.
