Its name comes from its characteristic wedge-shaped tail. The reverse depicts a majestic wedgetail preparing to take off from a tree branch. The obverse shows the profile of the late Queen Elizabeth II with the yearly dates of her reign (1952-2022) and the coin’s denomination.

This notable issue features an incused image, meaning the design is pressed into the surface of the coin, rather than the more traditional embossed relief.
