Eduard Vilde (1865-1933) – Estonian writer, playwright and journalist, representative of critical realism in Estonian literature. In his works, Eduard Vilde depicted the ruin and impoverishment of the Estonian countryside and the proletarianization of the peasantry. Eduard Vilde wrote a historical trilogy about the peasant unrest in Estonia in the late 1850s. The trilogy is permeated by the idea that the liberation of the people from the yoke of the Baltic-German landowners cannot occur without the active struggle of the peasantry.
