A new series of French silver coins is dedicated to the myths and legends that have shaped the history of gold.

This coin represents Midas, king of Phrygia. Honored by the god Dionysus with the gift of turning everything he touches into pure gold, Midas soon suffered from the power that made him infinitely rich. Unable to eat or quench his thirst, he sought solace in the arms of his daughter, who instantly turned into a golden statue. He then begged Dionysus to take away this gift and, according to legend, had to bathe in the Pactolus River to get rid of this curse.
