DC Comics (founded in 1934 as National Allied Publications) is one of the largest and most popular comic book publishers. The abbreviation DC took over from the publisher’s most popular Detective Comics series and soon became the official name of the company.
The coin series consists of 18 coins. The second coin is dedicated to the Joker. The supervillain Joker first appeared on April 25, 1940, in the debut issue of the Batman comic book. The Joker was originally planned to be killed after his first appearance, but editors intervened and kept him alive. Since then, the character has remained Batman’s superhero nemesis. In the DC universe, the Joker is portrayed as an underworld genius, the complete opposite of Batman.
