Silver Coin $2 Niue 2023 – Czech Lion

The coin depicts the national symbol of the Czech Republic – the majestic two-tailed lion.
The coin also features the Crown of Saint Wenceslas, which is part of the Czech Crown Jewels. Bohemia is now part of the Czech Republic, and the Czech Crown Jewels are kept in an undisclosed location in Prague’s St. Vitus Cathedral. The vault is sealed with seven locks, the keys to which are held by seven different government and religious figures. The reverse shows a branch of linden, the national tree of the Czech Republic.
The lion became part of Czech heraldry thanks to the legendary story of Prince Bruncvik. According to the tale, Bruncvik was a mythical prince who traveled across Africa where he helped a lion defeat a dragon. This is one of the most famous stories about how an exotic lion became a symbol of the Czech Republic. And despite the distinctly Czech theme, this coin is actually $2 legal tender in Niue, a small island nation in the South Pacific that licensed the Czech Mint to mint these coins.
