For 60 years, James Bond has been providing moviegoers with classic moments, witty lines and thrills. When James Bond debuted on the silver screen in 1962, few could have predicted the character’s success and longevity in the decades to come. Now, 25 films later, 007 is one of the most famous characters in cinema history, with an incredible fan base around the world. Although Bond is a true icon of the film industry today, it took almost a decade for the character to break out of the pages of fiction and enter the realm of cinema. Bond’s success essentially created an entirely new genre of films, spawning countless imitators in the following years as film producers scrambled to join the trend. Despite growing opposition, there was no replacement, and 007 remained the undisputed king of the genre. More than 60 years after he first delivered his famous introduction, the character of James Bond has lost none of his charm, and it’s hard to imagine a movie without Britain’s favorite secret agent.
Beginning with the 1960s, possibly the character’s most iconic era, Six Decades of 007 is designed to pay homage to each distinct decade of the character’s evolution, from the original incarnation to the franchise’s reinvention in the 2000s.
