20 Euro Silver Coin Austria 2022 – Eyes of the World “Africa – Serenity of the Elephant”

As part of the “Eyes of the World” series, five coins will be released, each of which will be dedicated to one of the continents of the Earth and the animal that inhabits and personifies it:

The eyes of the five animals featured in this series shine on the reverse of five different coins, each with a different shade of Swarovski crystal.

People have always admired the calm demeanor and calming sense of serenity of the elephant. These qualities are highlighted on the Elephant Serenity, the fourth of five pieces in the Eyes of the World series, in the shape of sapphire blue elephant eyes made from sparkling Swarovski® crystals.
Africans have revered elephants since ancient times. In Cameroon, revered kings are equated with elephants; among the Ashanti people in Ghana, good governance is strongly associated with both the idea of a strong elephant and the poise of matriarchy. Many of the religious and political rituals and traditions that stem from the human concept of elephants date back to a time when the rights of the pachyderms were not yet limited to humans. To ensure that the natural habitat of elephants does not disappear more than it already has, a new and consistent approach to environmental protection is needed. It requires patience and perseverance, qualities that make the elephant such a revered animal.
