20 euro silver coin Austria 2022 – Tiger
€85.00 includes 22% VAT
As part of the “Eyes of the World” series, five coins will be released, each of which will be dedicated to one of the continents of the Earth and the animal that inhabits and personifies it:
- Australia and the snake
- Europe and the owl
- Africa and the elephant
- Asia and the tiger
- America and the Bear
The eyes of the five animals featured in this series shine on the reverse of five different coins, each with a different shade of Swarovski crystal.
Known throughout Asia as the king of beasts, the tiger has no natural enemies but many admirers. Since time immemorial, people have admired the imposing appearance and natural beauty of the tiger, which is accentuated by the fiery red Swarovski® crystals that form the eyes of the tiger on the third coin of the Eyes of the World series. The color symbolizes strength and energy, but for an animal of such strength, the tiger is also known as a peaceful creature, despite the fact that he is ready to fight at any opportunity.
In the history of Asian culture, images of the tiger abound. The predator is credited with power and strength in all their manifestations. In China, where the Year of the Tiger begins on February 1, 2022, the animal has always been an emblem of strength and courage. In Hinduism, he also plays a very symbolic role, the goddess Durga is often depicted riding a tiger.
Always alert, silent and solitary, the tiger goes in search of prey mostly at dusk or at night, often wandering for hours. Unlike lions, for whom rivers and lakes are a barrier, tigers love water and are excellent swimmers. Deep in the bamboo jungle, an eerie patch of light and shadow appears fleetingly. But so beautifully camouflaged with magnificent stripes, the tiger remains unrecognizable. The obverse of the coin depicts a tiger moving through a thicket of bamboo, the outer ring of which is decorated in the form of a mandala, a geometric configuration of symbols with magical significance in the rituals of Buddhism and Hinduism. The reverse is completely dominated by the mighty head of a tiger whose face is adorned with pinpoint scars and, last but not least, carefully polished Swarovski® crystals.
