€45.00 includes 22% VAT
The Democratic Republic of the Congo generally uses banknotes for circulation and does not issue coins in the Congolese franc currency. However, the country has allowed some foreign mints to issue commemorative and bullion coins under its jurisdiction.
This fourth edition of the annual World’s Wildlife Series is dedicated to the brown bear.
The bear is one of the most famous animal species in the world and plays an important role in the mythology and culture of many nations due to its size and strength. This species belongs to the family of mammals and is divided into eight different subspecies. The best known subspecies include the polar bear from the Arctic and northern Canada, the brown bear from North America, Europe and Russia, the giant panda from China, and the American black bear from North America and Mexico. While the habitat of animals once stretched across the globe, now their territory has been greatly reduced. Continued deforestation, illegal poaching, and climate change have resulted in some subspecies being classified as endangered.
The obverse of the coin, framed by beads, depicts the coat of arms of the Democratic Republic of the Congo, consisting of a leopard’s head surrounded by an elephant’s tusk on the left and a spear on the right. On the ribbon at the bottom is the national motto JUSTICE PAIX TRAVAIL (French: Justice, Peace, Work).
