The Cherepanovs steam locomotive is the first steam locomotive built in Russia. The first steam locomotive was built in 1833. The first steam locomotive was built by Yefim and Miron, father and son Cherepanovs, in 1833 at the Vyisky plant. The mass of the locomotive in working condition was 2.4 tons. In 1836, the Cherepanovs built the first 854 m long railway in Russia, connecting the Vyisky plant and the Mednorudyansky mine. In 1837, the future Emperor Alexander II drove along this road and went down into the mine.
