Silver coin 5 euro Cyprus 2022 – Diovolo of the ancient kingdom of Amathus

Amathus was one of the four city kingdoms of ancient Cyprus. Amathus was also an important place of worship for the goddess Aphrodite-Astarte.
Among the many archaeologically significant finds at the site are an agora, public baths, a temple of Aphrodite, early Christian basilicas and various burials.
On a hill near Amathus is the Temple of Aphrodite. For centuries, the Temple of Aphrodite was considered an enclosed sacred space for ceremonies and votive offerings around the altar.
It is believed that in addition to the temple of Aphrodite, there were two more temples on the Acropolis of Amathus: the temple of Adonis and the temple of Hercules.
