Silver coin 5 euro Latvia 2023 – 150th anniversary of the song and dance festival

The Latvian Song and Dance Celebration is an important cultural event in Latvia. It is always an exciting, emotionally unifying and uplifting event. From the first Festival in 1873, with the participation of 1,000 singers, it has grown into a powerful movement – about 40,000 participants are preparing to take part in the XXVII Latvian Song Festival and the XVII Dance Festival.
The tradition of the Song and Dance Festival is included in the UNESCO Representative List of Masterpieces of the Oral and Intangible Heritage of Humanity – it is an internationally recognized cultural value.
The coin captures many emotions associated with the Song Festival – a sense of unity, emotional and musical excitement, as well as the visual brightness of the various colors of national costumes. The shape of the coin fluctuates with the characteristic movement of the rows of choir singers, fluttering ribbons and flags. Mixing several colors symbolizes the union of different people and traditions from different regions of Latvia into a single choir.
