The Latvian Open Air Ethnographic Museum is one of the oldest and largest museums of its kind in Europe. The oldest treasures of wooden architecture in Latvia are kept here. Since its establishment in 1924, the museum has been committed to preserving historical heritage for future generations. The museum is a repository displaying the estates of Latvian peasants and fishermen. It also houses craftsmen’s workshops, forges, pottery and resin kilns, windmills, churches of various denominations, etc. The museum goes beyond a simple home, and ancient tools have meaning beyond mere objects. Each object carries within it a trace of human touch, a story about the time in which that person lived, about the work that supported his own existence, the existence of his family and the existence of the nation.
