The coin is the second issue in the “Knights of Malta Past” series. A series of unique coins refers to the traditions of the Order of Malta and its fate in the history of Europe.

The obverse of the second coin of the series depicts the knights of Malta in confrontation with the invaders during the Great Siege of Malta in 1565 – the most important battle in the history of the island and one of the key ones for Europe. The reverse of the coin features the coat of arms of the Central Bank of Malta on a shield held by a Knight of Malta.
