The coin is dedicated to the memory of Her Majesty Queen Elizabeth II.

The Royal Mint has released a series of coins in honor of the succession of the royal throne to celebrate the life and legacy of Britain’s longest-reigning monarch. This is the first series of coins with a portrait of His Majesty King Charles III.

Elizabeth II came to the throne on February 6, 1952, and thus was the longest-lived and longest-reigning British monarch, the longest-reigning female head of state in history, as well as the oldest and longest-reigning head of state.

A piedfort is an unusually thick coin, often exactly twice the normal weight and thickness of other coins of the same diameter and pattern.

Obverse: Two portraits of Her Majesty Queen Elizabeth II – at the beginning and at the end of her reign.

Reverse: The first portrait of His Majesty the King personally approved by the monarch.
