Global warming is a continuation of the popular silver niobium series.
The rise in temperature caused by human activity since 1850 has already exceeded the 1°C mark. It is now feared that by the year 2100 temperatures could rise by more than 3°C, with catastrophic consequences for both humans and the natural world. If global CO2 emissions can be reduced by 45 percent by 2030, we can prevent this increase. But time is running out and we are already beginning to see the effects of global warming. Extreme weather events, melting glaciers and climate change are becoming more frequent. The reduction of energy consumption and the sustainable use of natural resources are important steps in the fight against such phenomena. Every ton of greenhouse gases we don’t produce could help prevent a catastrophe.
The thermometer depicted inside the blue and gold niobium core on the obverse of the coin is part of a clock that symbolizes that time is running out. To the left of it is a globe with +1.5°C written on it. The center of the reverse of the coin also depicts a globe dedicated to the economic, environmental and social aspects of sustainable development. On the right are the silhouettes of two human faces, a sea turtle is swimming in front of them. Due to environmental pollution and global warming, this species is threatened with extinction.
