Louis Pasteur (1822-1895) – French chemist and microbiologist, who became one of the founders of microbiology and the scientific foundations of vaccination. At the age of 26 he became a professor of physics. In 1888 he founded the Pasteur Institute in Paris and directed it for the rest of his life.
