Silver coin Latvia 2023 – Poet Imants Ziedonis (“Stardust”)

The Latvian silver coin “Stardust” is dedicated to the outstanding figure of Latvian culture, Imants Ziedonis.

Imants Ziedonis (May 3, 1933 – February 27, 2013) lives on in the memory of people as a creative, active, energetic person, one of the most prominent Latvian poets. Dreamer and inspiration. A visionary who had the ability to see and create beyond boundaries. Seeing stardust in supposedly trivial things. He always encouraged people to learn more about their country. Therefore, the motive of the road – walking, moving, searching for the beautiful, the necessary – was important in his work.

There are several images on the obverse and reverse of the coin. The walking person symbolizes the search for truth, meaning and belonging. Meanwhile, the constellation symbolizes the relationship between earth and sky, highlighting the fact that man – like stardust – is part of the universe.
