Fairy Morgana is a sorceress, a character in English legends of the Arthurian cycle, the sister of King Arthur. Geoffrey of Monmouth first introduced a version of the character in his twelfth-century work Vita Merlini. Morgana’s early appearances in Arthurian literature do not reveal her character beyond her role as a goddess, fairy, witch, or sorceress, usually benevolent and associated with Arthur as his magical savior, protector, and healer. Some of the numerous and often unnamed mistress fairies found in the Arthurian romance genre can also be seen as appearances of Morgana in her various forms.
