The coin is dedicated to Richard I of England, known as Richard the Lionheart—a legendary king and one of the most outstanding warriors of the Middle Ages. The issue is part of the “Battle Legends” series, dedicated to famous rulers and warriors who left a lasting mark on history.

The obverse depicts Richard the Lionheart as a medieval warrior: the crowned king sits on horseback, holding a raised sword. A medieval fortress and heraldic lions on a crimson field are visible in the background, while a gilded shield appears at the bottom of the composition.
