The $1 coin representing Tennessee commemorates the creation of the Tennessee Valley Authority (TVA). Congress created TVA in 1933 to build power lines to serve farms and villages that were otherwise not supplied with electricity at reasonable prices.
The obverse shows a Tennessee farm with newly installed power lines along the road. Inscriptions: “UNITED STATES OF AMERICA”, “TENNESSEE VALLEY AUTHORITY” and “TENNESSEE”.
The reverse depicts the Statue of Liberty in profile with the words IN GOD WE TRUST and “$ 1”. Year of minting, mint mark and the inscription “E PLURIBUS UNUM” are applied to the edge of the coins.
