1 USD 2021 New York – Erie Canal
€4.00
American explorers have been looking for a waterway to the west of the United States for a long time. Throughout the 18th and 19th centuries, the lack of an efficient and safe transport network limited population influx and trade. The Erie Canal, which began construction in 1817 and was fully completed in 1825, is considered a 19th century engineering marvel that solved these problems. He connected the Great Lakes system with the Atlantic Ocean.
On the reverse, designer Ronald D. Sanders depicted a boat in the background of this canal, being pulled from the city in the east to the rural areas in the west.
The obverse depicts the Statue of Liberty in profile with the words IN GOD WE TRUST and “$ 1”. Year of minting, mint mark and the inscription “E PLURIBUS UNUM” are applied to the edge of the coins.
