2 euro France 2019 – 30th anniversary of the fall of the Berlin wall

30 years ago, the Berlin Wall fell. This event affected not only Germany but the whole world. The event of 9 November 1989 marks the end of the Cold War and puts an end to decades of international tension. At European level, this is the first step towards the reunification of one of the leading countries in the European Union. This major change was implemented by the German reunification treaty in Moscow, which was also signed by France. The European Union gained 16 million new citizens in just one year. This step had the same structural and economic impact on the Union as the accession of a new country.The coin depicts the Berlin Wall, from the center of which the troubled pigeons rise and a jubilant crowd arrives. In the background is the most famous symbol of Berlin, the Brandenburg Gate. “30 ANS DE LA CHUTE DU MUR DE BERLIN / 30 JAHRE MAUERFALL” is written on one side of the wall. At the bottom of the image is the year of issue 2019 and to the right is the country of issue RF (denoting the French Republic).
