2 euro Germany 2008 – Hamburg (Error – old map)
€55.00
The 2008 “Hamburg” coin is one of Germany’s most famous commemorative coins, and its popularity stems from the so-called “error map of Europe.” It is part of the renowned “Bundesländer” series, each coin dedicated to one of Germany’s federal states.
This coin’s error stems from the fact that it was minted using the old common-side die with the previous map design of Europe, although since 2007, coins should have used a new, more expanded version of the map without internal borders. As a result of this oversight, the “old map” variety is considered rarer and highly prized among collectors.
The obverse of the coin depicts one of the most famous Baroque churches in Germany and one of the symbols of the city of Hamburg – St. Michael’s Church.
