The Paulskirche Constitution (officially the Constitution of the German Empire) is the first all-German constitution adopted democratically. The Constitution was adopted on March 28, 1849 at the Frankfurt National Assembly in St. Paul’s Church in Frankfurt am Main. The Paulskirche Constitution established a unified constitutional monarchy in Germany and provided for a bicameral State Assembly, consisting of a chamber of states and a chamber of the people.
