Roll 2 euro Greece 2025 – 100 years since the birth of Mikis Theodorakis

A central figure in modern Greece, legendary composer and public figure Mikis Theodorakis (1925–2021) is celebrated with the release of a €2 commemorative coin to mark the 100th anniversary of his birth.

Theodorakis was more than just a musician: he combined folk, Byzantine and classical musical traditions to create a unique style – entechno – and became the voice of generations. His work combined the poetry of Yiannis Ritsos, Elias, Neruda and others, and his personal life was closely linked to the struggle for freedom and democracy, including participation in the movement against the Greek junta.
