The coin commemorates the 200th anniversary of the birth of the renowned writer and journalist Carlo Collodi. In his youth, he wrote articles and political satire and participated in the movement for Italian unification, but it was his book “The Adventures of Pinocchio” that brought him worldwide fame.

The obverse of the coin depicts Pinocchio, the protagonist of Carlo Collodi’s famous work. On the right side of the field, his shadow gazes in surprise at the Talking Cricket, who sits on the tip of Pinocchio’s long nose, which grew because of his lies.
