Domenico Ghirlandaio (1448-1494) was one of the leading Florentine artists of the Quattrocento period, the founder of an artistic dynasty that was continued by his brother David and son Ridolfo. The head of the art workshop where the young Michelangelo spent a year mastering his professional skills. Around 1480 he became the de facto official portrait painter of Florentine high society.
The coin depicts the altarpiece “Adoration of the Shepherds”.
