2 euro Vatican 2006 – 500 years of the Swiss Guard

The Swiss Guard is the name given to those Swiss soldiers who, since the late 15th century, have served as bodyguards, ceremonial guards and palace guards in foreign European courts. The Pontifical Swiss Guard in the Vatican was founded in 1506 and is the only Swiss Guard still in existence.
