Austria 3 Euro color series Dinosaurs-2020 Tyrannosaurus Rex

The largest and most impressive animals that have ever lived are now represented in a series of colored Austrian coins with a face value of 3 euros . The series brings prehistoric giants back to life in the form of 12 superb glow-in-the-dark coins, each dedicated to one of the prehistoric creatures that ruled the waves, roamed the earth, or dominated the sky.

The fifth issue dedicated to the Tyrannosaurus Rex is the last issue of 2020. Tyrannosaurs lived at the end of the Cretaceous period (68-66 million years ago). Tyrannosaurus Rex was more than 4 m high and weighed up to 8 tons.

The Tyrannosaurus Rex had the strongest bite of any creature that ever existed on Earth. He could crush a modern car in his jaw without damaging his teeth or skull.

The Tyrannosaurus Rex had a hard skull like modern crocodiles, rather than a flexible one like reptiles and other dinosaurs. This allowed the Rex to bite its prey with a force equivalent to 7 tons.

Modern saltwater crocodiles compress their prey by just 1.8 t — 25% of the power of a Rex bite. At the same time, crested saltwater crocodiles have the most powerful bite of all existing animals today.

All 12 3 Euro coins in the Supersaurs series are legal tender in Austria.

The obverse features an image of 12 dinosaurs that will be minted within four years. The circle contains the name of the issuing country – ” REPUBLIK ÖSTERREICH “and the nominal value of the coin – “3 EURO”.

The reverse shows a close-up color image of a Tyrannosaurus Rex, against a prehistoric landscape. Part of the reverse is selectively coated with a special paint that glows in the dark. Inscriptions: the name of the dinosaur species – “TYRANNOSAURUS REX” and the year of issue of the coin – “2020”.
