Otto Strandman (1875–1941), born in the village of Vandu in Kadrina Parish, was an outstanding statesman. He served during a time when the birth of the Estonian state and the future of the nation were being decided. Strandman’s prolific political career began immediately after the overthrow of the Tsarist regime, and he became one of the leading proponents of Estonian autonomy.
