1.5 Euro Spain 2022 Endangered Species – European Mink
€19.00 includes 22% VAT
This is one of the most endangered mammals on the planet. Currently, there are only three populations: in central Russia, in Romania, and one limited to southwestern France and northern Spain. These three populations are in clear decline. The main reason why this small predator is endangered is the presence of the American mink (an invasive species introduced by humans many years ago when fur farms began to breed), which cornered the European mink, is also a carrier of the Aleutian mink disease, to which European species are less resistant than American ones. This fact, as well as the degradation and pollution of the waters of the rivers that form their natural habitat, or traffic accidents, have led to the fact that the population of the European mink in the rivers in the north of our country has been reduced to several hundred individuals.
The coins of Spain were issued in a special design with enameling on the obverse, which ensures greater realism of the image.
The obverse of the Spanish 1.5 euro coin depicts the European mink.
The reverse (common to all coins) depicts a floral ornament and animal tracks, the denomination and the inscription ANIMALES EN PELIGRO DE EXTINCIÓN (Endangered Animals).
