“The Chess Queen” is an exquisite tribute to the most powerful piece on the chessboard. Designed to be the crown jewel of your collection, this magnificent silver coin is dedicated to the Queen, a symbol of strength, strategy and elegance. The queen is the most powerful piece in chess, capable of moving any distance vertically, horizontally, and diagonally, combining the capabilities of the rook and bishop.

Chess has ancient roots and has undergone a long evolution. Originating from the war game chaturanga, popular in southern Central Asia after 600 BC, chess evolved as it spread through Byzantium and the Arab world to Europe. Initially, instead of a queen, there was a piece called farzin (vizier) on the board, whose moves were limited. It was only in the 15th century that the queen took its place, becoming the key player on the board.

The reverse of the coin depicts a majestic chess queen, wearing a crown, holding a silver fan in the shape of queen figures, and holding a scepter in her hands. Her robes are decorated with a checkerboard pattern, and the Black Proof mirror finish adds subtle contrast and depth to the composition. The obverse features the profile of King Charles III, denoting Niue’s status as official legal tender.
