The Krugerrand is the most popular silver coin issued by the South African Mint in South Africa. The name comes from the name of the then President of South Africa – Paul Kruger. The second part of the name “rand” is the name of the South African currency. It was first released in 1967 and its image has remained largely unchanged since then.
On the reverse the silver coin depicts the symbol of South Africa – the Springbok antelope. The coin also contains information about the weight and fineness of the silver of the coin and the year of issue of the coin.
