€45.00 includes 22% VAT
This bullion coin was minted on behalf of the British Indian Ocean Territory by the Pobjoy Mint. The name Cutty Sark actually comes from the famous poem by Robert Burns “Tam O’Shanter” (the nickname for the witch in the poem), which was published in 1791 and commemorates the 230th anniversary.
The history of this vessel began in 1869, the year of its construction. His first trip was in 1870 when he went to Shanghai, China, during the Chinese tea trade. Cutty Sark is known for its record speed in the late 1800s, when it could transport goods in less than a month. Fast forward to the 1900s, when the ship was later rebuilt and used to train cadets. In 1954, the ship was taken to Greenwich, where further restorations were made, and then opened as a local landmark in 1957, where it continues to amaze and delight its fellow rides.
The obverse depicts the famous Cutty Sark clipper in full sail. The weight and purity of the metal are also indicated.
Reverse depicting Her Majesty Queen Elizabeth II, used exclusively by Pobjoy Mint.
