The coin was issued on the occasion of the reintroduction of the Estonian kroon on 20 June 1992, 64 years after the first use of the kroon.

The obverse of the coin depicts the national bird of Estonia, the barn swallow, which nests near residential buildings and whose nest is believed to bring good luck to the house.

The reverse side of the coin depicts the coat of arms of the Republic of Estonia, which is over 700 years old.
