The coin is dedicated to the 200th anniversary of the birth of the Estonian poet, journalist, leader of the Estonian national movement during the awakening period – Johann Voldemar Jannsen. He founded the newspapers Perno Postimees and Eesti Postimees. Jannsen and his daughter, the poetess Lydia Koidula, founded the Vanemuine singing society in 1865. He was the initiator of all-Estonian song festivals (the first one was in the summer of 1869). The first to officially use the phrase “Estonian people” as the name of the Estonians. Wrote the lyrics to the Estonian anthem.
